Secret Santas

Now, I know that Christmas is still 5 months away, but we were all together the other night and thought about this issue.

Shantell was going to Post about it, but i will...

We were thinking that because we all get together and get a big present for the person at birthdays that we are all used to receiving one present from all of us which led on to our idea.

We are going to have a Secret Santa so we only need to buy one present instead of like 30. We thought about putting a $20 minimum on the present, and a $50 maximum. We would then all go out to dinner one night and all swap (anonymously) presents. (and Partners cannot take their partner's names)

Please post on here if you would be willing to particpate.(as a comment, so that we can find them easily in a month or so)

We need to gauge a response to see if we should go ahead with this.

Thanks

I will have to talk to Trav but I'm sure we should be in, although as xmas is coming up we have HEAPS of ppl to buy for just in our families, so i was wondering, why don't we make it a fun theme and say a maximum of $20 and just buy fun cute things relating to the selected person?? It would work out alot more affordable for everyone meaning more ppl would be interested in participating, especially considering you are also including dinner which usually means sizzler so that's at least another $20-$30 dollars. Adding to a total of $50 rather than say $80 for the night. I don't mean to upset anyone but I think this is a very valid point.

ok well i make the least amount of money out of EVERYONE, and i dont see anything wrong with the $20 min... we have 5 months to save at least $20... thats $4 a month or $1 a week to put aside... and that isn't very much... we all have other expenses and people to buy presents for, thats why we are organising this so early

anyway, i do like the secret santa idea, count me in

Yeah sounds ok... but the guys can't get out of it by making their gf's buy the thing for them or something. it means EVERYONE HAS TO MAKE AN EFFORT. No laziness.

I quite like the laziness idea actually. That's got my vote...

Oh wait, we weren't commenting on that were we. Although in general I have an unwritten rule that NOONE is to EVER buy me a present, I might overlook it on this occassion... who knows.

A tentative yes.

well, I know that you have heaps of ppl to buy for - you, Trav, his family and one present of not more than $10 for one person in your family. Seeing as you both work, maybe we thought that you could spare a total of $40 for a present each.

$20 minimum is not very much when you consider that we would probabkly all end up buying presents for everyone.

And if you don't like a $20 minimum, you do not have to particpate

yeah, i think that the $20 to $50 limit is reasonable because most of us usualy put in that much for bday presents ne way, and the money spent on food for dinner will be bout the same as we would spend on food and alcohol at a bday party. so its the same really.

Hey. Please understand, I wasn't being bitchy, a scrodge or whateva. Trav and I are happy to participate, we want to. I was just worried about other people. I'm not going to get into our financial affairs, I was simply using us as an example, that's all. Yes we can afford to participate but I was worried about others (I know what it's like to be broke and not be able to participate in such things), that's all I promise. Sorry I guess I didn't explain myself properly :o(
