The Purpose of the Watch

I was walking in the desert one day, a casual stroll, when I came across two peculiar objects. I saw a tortoise on its back, struggling in the sun to turn over. I watched for a while, then helped the tortoise to its feet and it walked slowly away into the distance.

The other object I made out shone in the sun, a golden, pleasant shine. I picked it up and it became apparent that what I was holding in my hand was a watch, a gold pocket watch.

I thought to myself how intricately designed the timepiece was and how strange for it to be just sitting out in the desert like it was. It wasn't running and as I started to wind it up, I began to wonder who might have dropped it. Then I wondered who it was that might have made this golden watch, its creator. I soon looked past this however and began wondering about timekeeping objects in general, all watch kind, how well they are doing in the world and how they are prospering in a continuously changing world, adapting to their environment.

I contemplated the many millions of timepieces in the world, their origins and their future. I began to wonder about their purpose. I looked at the gold watch in my hand and thought to myself, it was most likely made to tell the time. But the more I thought about this and everything else, the less it seemed to make sense.

I noticed there was a message engraved on the back of the watch that I could make out as saying, "I am what I am". This seemed to me a strange phrase to engrave on a watch. I thought perhaps that the watch simply was what it was, its purpose being nothing than to simply be. The flourish of timepieces observable since early hourglasses and water timers to modern digital watches can be attributable to the fact that these devices are good at surviving in their environment by doing nothing but what comes naturally, indicating the flow of time.

I finally realised that the watch I was holding wasn't created to tell the time, it tells the time because that is one of the prerequisites of it creation. Watches that do not tell the time accurately, soon become extinct.

By that time, I had wound the watch all the way and I was tired of thinking. I let go, held it to my ear and listened. There was no ticking. "It must be broken", I thought. I looked up and saw the tortoise walking away further into the distance.

Dinner Party

Hi. As I never had a successful Housewarming (and seeing as you all know my house anyway) I thought that I would have a dinner party this weekend.

So Details are :

  • Saturday 31 July 2004
  • 7pm - whenever
  • My House

And -

all please bring a food item - so, casserole, salad, drinks, etc etc.

I would really like it if this could be pulled off successfully and we have enough food etc for everyone, so please think about it and bring something (home-made would be really good) but we need to feed everyone, so please bring some dinner.

And I do have a stove and grill for last minute preparations, but unfortunately no oven.

Get back to me so that I know who is coming, and I will email you all of this also,.

but then we watched a dodgey version of bad boys II, we had sub-titles on and the dude who does the english to english sub-titles is on drugs or something lol
ok here are the funniest ones. :)

(there in no typos the spelling and typos r correct to the actual sub-titles)

sub-title - the propotion is he is blowing this whole thing out
real - hes blowing this whole thing out of proportion

sub-title - my as is poportion witha big chop missel
real - my ass is out of proportion Mike, I got a big chunk missing (contex he got shot in the ass)

sub-title - (dude 1) - you know, man? I donpt tention to bring you into this room maybe this should show back it will help people in a long way
(dude 2) - maybe the anger be no long one
real - (dude 1 ) you know man, this undue tension you bring into this relationship aint going to be healthy fo us in the long run
(dude 2 ) - maybe there aint gunna be no long run

sub-title - he seem shooting
real - he's seeing a shrink

sub-title - he, you embarass me fucking out my people

sub-title - i got it froma woman staff, she got pregnant when se it.  and you put one chip, and i'll put anotherb one chip.
real - i got it from a maternity store, you know, pregnant women can use it, they can put one cheak here and like take the pressure of the other cheak (contex - mike with a blow up donut shap pillow thingy for his partner who got shot in the ass so he can sit down)

sub-title - you're now with somebody bad guy you shouldn't even know about it
real - your bouncing arround in somebodys backyard maybe you should let them know about it.

sub-title - this is real far to get in here sir
real - this is a beautiful house you got here sir

sub-title - she is attractive, pretty, dumb, muscle guy
real - she's attracted to these dumb, flashy just muscle bound dick heads

sub-title  - hes been fucking turn away the ass man
real - cant even fucking turn to wipe their ass

sub-title - if i ran a seeping truck over your head you wont be bleeding
real - if i through you out of a speeding ice truck and ran over your head, you wouldnt be normal either!!! (contex talking about a bunck of dead bodies that fell out of an ice truck, they were chasing, and they ran them over as they fell out. and mike was saying they bodies were not normal because all their insides had been removed)

ok thats the best of them.
the sub-title dude also seemed to not like his job cos he must have left for lunch or fell asleep, cos there is a whole section in the middle of the movie that has no subtitles and they resume near the end.
lol
ok well thats all i have to say now
blog ya later dudes

Hi all :o)

Hi everyone

Wow what a week, first off my friend who I go and see every morning, take to work then off to work for me asked me if at the end of our lease she and her b'f could move in with us!!!! I was like um er ah nah, I mean what do u do in that situation?  She knows we are looking for someone maybe possibly to share a house with us, but what she doesn't understand (as I am sure most of u understand about me) is that her and I are both very hot headed, and would clash over EVERYTHING lol.  I have avoided picking her up all week lol.    What she doesn't know is that we have arranged to pick a house to rent with our other friend Kelly who is a full on legend lol, so yes we will be moving back to Maroochydore (hopefully) in October which means we will be a good 20-25mins closer to Brisbane WAHOOOOO but no where near as close to the beach as we are at the moment.

Next, the girl who is my side kick Amber, called in sick on Wednesday and then quit via email yesterday saying she has a job as a vets assisstant (fair enough it's what she's always wanted to do) so I am left in the office all on my lonesome 75% of the time lol.

To top it off John, my boss, has decided that this is an awesome reason to shout us (me and two old guys) out to lunch today........wierd huh.

Trav took me shopping last night at the Plaza and brought me a shirt that is really cool, it looks like I am wearing a short sleaved shirt over a long sleaved one, the long sleaves are white and shor sleaved one is red with a picture of a truck on it and in big letter OPEN 24 HOURS, I had to laugh I put it on and I got so many wierd looks lol.

What is everyone up to lately?? Hows uni, work etc going, seen any good movies lately etc etc etc??

Oh well that's our life this weeks

Gotta run

Lots of love to all

SECRET SANTA 2 - the update

We (Katja, Shantell, Meg) have been looking through the comments posted on the last note about Secret Santas, and we have come to the conclusion that this is how it will work - -

$20 minimum, $50 maximum - seen as a majority consensus as of last post

Presents to be relevant to the person chosen - All people to post by 15th November on comments here for things that would interest them, but presents are not limited to these ideas (this gives us an idea and people will not all receive soap from people who do not know them very well.)

Presents not to be recycled (that is, need to be new), but can be swapped as long as the other person is willing.

If someone pulls their partner's name, or their own, the name is to be returned and another chosen. A couple will need to supply two presents. Names can be changed to some extent during the picking time without telling who has been put back in.

Post a comment here by 20th October whether you will be involved so that we have time (while on University Prac) to

a - save up between $20 - $50
b - put things on layby as alternative saving
c - get ideas together
d - put $2 minimum aside per week

and importantly...

gives us all time to get a date to organise a day to get together at Jerry's to exchange names. This will be facilitated on a weekend in early November (approximately 14th/15th November - to be confirmed)

The Exchange - - will happen at Sizzler's on the 17th of December (Friday)
All gifts will have to be wrapped in the same paper (supplied at Jerry's in November) This is because we will all be together and need some anonymity in the gifts. These need to be clearly marked with computer written tags (typed up paper).

So, on the 14th/15th November, when we all are at Jerry's we will give you all some paper, and we will need to get $1 for paper from you

SO - NOW -

we have 5 months notice on the day at Jerry's (not sure 14th or 15th - watch this space) This needs to be free if you are participating or you will get the name left over.

We have 6 months notice on the dinner at Sizzler's. This gives us 6 months to keep this space clear and to save the approximate minimum of $40 (for each person)

Secret Santas

Now, I know that Christmas is still 5 months away, but we were all together the other night and thought about this issue.

Shantell was going to Post about it, but i will...

We were thinking that because we all get together and get a big present for the person at birthdays that we are all used to receiving one present from all of us which led on to our idea.

We are going to have a Secret Santa so we only need to buy one present instead of like 30. We thought about putting a $20 minimum on the present, and a $50 maximum. We would then all go out to dinner one night and all swap (anonymously) presents. (and Partners cannot take their partner's names)

Please post on here if you would be willing to particpate.(as a comment, so that we can find them easily in a month or so)

We need to gauge a response to see if we should go ahead with this.

Thanks

Bowling for Chontie!

Next Friday, on the 16th of July is Chantal's birthday! Because she has never been bowling before, I thought this would be a perfect time to take her and show her what she's been missing. So if you would like to come along for a game or two on Friday evening, we will be meeting at the Chermside Hyperbowl next to the Megaplex Cinemas at 6:30pm. All friends of Chontie are invited to help make her birthday a memorable one.

Hope to see you there.

We got a car today. YAY we got it for free its ok. I cant complain seeing we get it for free. It doesn't go atm cos It has a flat battery so we gotta tow it home and we gotta do a few things to it, cos the person who owns its ex boyfriend took some parts from the motor so we gotta replace them. We gotta get a roadworthy done and we gotta get it registered and all the other stuff. Its a Honda Civic. Its a cool colour Purpley-blue colour. I do have a huge complaint. well 2. Its everything I hate in a car. lol its 2 door and a hatch back. lol the 2 things I hate about cars most and I gotta put up with it. But we aint paying for it sorta. still gotta get it going. but I Cant complain about something thats free. :). I dunno what year it is forgot to ask. but we will have it here sometime before next weekend cos The owner is moving this weekend. so umm yeah. its cool I suppose. :)

He wants an amp and a mic. we r gunna get it from cash converters if its still there. Marcus knows which one cos he was shopping with peter. the party isnt till the 17th so I need to know by then. we r gunna put the stuff on lay-buy on Monday so umm yeah.

Last night we went to see Spider-Man 2, it was brilliant! We were supposed to meet there at 5:30pm, but Chantal and I were running a bit late. We arrived to find Terry, Marcus, Matt and Shantell just about to eat and decided to join them. Nat, Ben, Katty and Meg arrived a bit later.

my week

Well i had a pretty fun week... my dad came to aust on friday after my first and last exam for sex drugs rock n roll at 8:30am... (so cold)anyway i finished an hr early so i went down from the main uni to the creative industries area and went on the computers. Then i met up with my dad, we went to new farm and had some food, and the chic who served us was really excited that she and i had the same shoes... anyway then we decided to go to the city and we saw an unmarked cop car chase another car and then about a min later a cop car with a holding cell drove past also with its sirens on. So we then went into the mall and in the mall were heaps more cops and kids and camera men... apparently there was a huge fight with 80 rival school students, and it began with a cat fight between 2 girls. So after we went around the city we decided to go to redcliffe and some old guy came up to me there and said "are you lost, redcliffe is a pretty big city so its easy to get lost"... anyway that night i went to the movies and saw mean girls.

on saturday dad bought me a leather computer chair for my birthday and we saw a play called "proof".. i liked the lighting effects best with this play... the topic was about advanced maths and stuff... its a movie too apparantly (might not be out yet) with gwyenth paltrow, anthony hopkins and jake gyllenhaal.. the dad in the play seemed familiar but i cant remember where

on sunday jerry invited me out to the footy to see the broncos vs the raders.. anyways after the game i saw eternal sunshine of the spotless mind in the city... it is such a good movie.. everyone should see it!!!

On monday we went to the gold coast, walked around the beach and then went to harbour town.

Tuesday was the most fun, i drove around the side streets, and then we went to mt cootha had some lunch and then went to the plantearium... it was amazing, they showed a movie about the galaxy and stuff on the dome screen... it was soo cool (and the voice over guy was morphius), at one point you go though this cluster of stars and matter and stuff and the lady next to me thoought they were gonna fall on her... and you also went through a wormhole... and cause the screen basically was 365deg around you it felt like you were in it... it was amazing. then we saw supersize me...

Wednesday morning dad left, but before he left he gave me another driving lesson... and for my bday he gave me money for some professional lessons

so my week was fun!
