Notes From The Down Under Ground

Hands up who spotted the Dostoevsky reference...

So me and Jerry have started a public notebook called The Canetoad Notebook using Google's new notebook app called funnily enough, Google Notebook.

Ok have you ever had that thing where you type something so many time it like loses all meaning?

why do you always cross link everything to wikipedia. Its not an accurate resource anyway.

I like Wikipedia. :P

Are you suggesting that Dostoevsky did not in actual fact write Notes From The Underground???

:O

i know he wrote it, but what does that have to do with anything?

Wikipedia is unreliable because it is peer-mediated and there are some rather informed people who like altering the content of articles.

Regardless of it being a SOMETIMES unaccurate source, I still find wikipedia useful. I like it

I don't understand what people have against Wikipedia. It's usually pretty good with putting in links and references of where the information comes from, and if something hasn't been confirmed it has a warning message saying so. I know from personal experience it's not easy to get information up there for very long without it being scrutinised and removed if the moderators have any doubt.

Wikipedia is generally a good starting point for information and if there's any doubt as to the authenticity of the information then a quick google search or even the old school encylopedias in the library can be used to verify.

However, if you're only ever going to use one source for your information then you're not very good at doing research and have only yourself to blame.

"Two scholarly studies have concluded that vandalism is generally short-lived and that Wikipedia is generally as accurate as other encyclopedias."

but yea I agree with jerry. if i'm ever doing proper research i wouldn't use just one source.

I don't just link to Wikipedia either when posting online. It just happens to be more often the best resource to link to so that people can get a quick idea of what i'm on about when i think it requires clarification. better than linking to some commercial encyclopaedia i think.

plus, same as Ingabish, I like it :)

what was your name again??

didnt realise this would get into a huge discussion. anyways apparantly some kids wrote on their schools wiki that their principal was murdered or something, so some info is very unreliable... but i dont really like wikipedia, i dunno, just dont like how it looks...
